VIA PODGADGET . . .
If you are really tight on space and don't have the room to ever fit both your books and yourself in the same room, this invention is perfect for you.
The designer of the Cave Bookshelf says it "provides a private reading space within its form. As a seat height is just above the floor, CAVE gives a feeling of hiding from others standing around it. Books can be stored on both sides."

FELLOW C.O.B.R.A.S. AGENT TANNER GIVES US A DEBRIEF ON THIS COOL NEW ITALIAN EURO-SPY BOOK IN A POST ON HIS DOUBLE O SECTION BLOG TODAY . . .
An incredible photo book, featuring numerous archive images and original posters.
Italian James Bonds were actually every bit as cool as Sean Connery!
“I interviewed a number of directors, producers, screenwriters and actors from the 077 and 3S3 series for my TV show Stracult two years ago. I realized that the phenomenon was not at all marginal, unlike I had believed it to be and experienced it back then. [...] So I decided to tell about these people’s stories, their films, their characters, their dreams: all the care and passion that went into this long-neglected and underrated genre. Italo-007 was not as crazy and complex as spaghetti western, which affected several generations back in the 20th century. It did, however, have a revolutionary impact, and definitely a style of its own”.
A forgotten genre, studied by one of Italy’s leading film journalists.
Among the various genres of Italian popular film, “Italian-007” is possibly the least appreciated and investigated by movie enthusiasts. It includes hundreds of films inspired by the famous James Bond saga, which were released in Italy from 1964 to 1967 and then quickly succumbed to spaghetti westerns and grand American productions. Directors the likes of Sergio Sollima, Alberto De Martino, Umberto Lenzi, Sergio Greco created an endless list of secret agents, variously named 077, 008, 009, Z7 and so on: spies in all flavors, engaged in missions anywhere from New York to Paris, from Istanbul to Beirut, from Ibiza to Marbella. All of them were surrounded by beautiful, dangerous and skimpily dressed girls, whom they set out to seduce while trying to save their own lives. And, of course, they all had a few enemies to destroy, with their load of hidden nuclear weapons, superpowerful lasers, secret microfilms and kidnapped scientists.
Using wonderful images and original posters, Marco Giusti outlines the history of this fantastic pop imagery: “movies made in a matter of months, written in a few weeks”, with “minimal costs, small crews, sure bargains”. An important piece of Italian film history, full of madness, creativity and original ideas: a genre worth reviving and appreciating.

Phoebe finds herself drawn to Mallory, the strange and secretive new kid in school, and the two girls become as close as sisters . . . until Mallory’s magnetic older brother, Ryland, shows up during their junior year. Ryland has an immediate, exciting hold on Phoebe – but a dangerous hold, for she begins to question her feelings about her best friend and, worse, about herself.
Soon she’ll discover the shocking truth about Ryland and Mallory: that these two are visitors from the faerie realm who have come to collect on an age-old debt. Generations ago, the faerie queen promised Pheobe's ancestor five extraordinary sons in exchange for the sacrifice of one ordinary female heir. But in hundreds of years there hasn’t been a single ordinary girl in the family, and now the faeries are dying. Could Phoebe be the first ordinary one? Could she save the faeries, or is she special enough to save herself?

FEATURES AN UNPUBLISHED LESTER DENT STORY!
Pulp 2.0 Press Mad Pulp Bastard Bill Cunningham announced today that the publisher is adding a never-before-seen Lester Dent tale to its upcoming wild west book release RADIO WESTERN ADVENTURES (RWA). Dent of course is the world-famous pulp writer of the 30’s and 40’s who created the legendary DOC SAVAGE and THE AVENGER pulp characters. This wild west tale, “Snare Savvy” written in 1932 will join Donald F. Glut’s cover tale, “Who Really Was That Masked Man?” to create a western “double feature” tribute to Jim Harmon, the Old Time Radio historian and author, to whom this special book is dedicated.
The contract for “Snare Savvy” was negotiated by the author’s agent, noted pulp writer and historian Will Murray on behalf of the Dent estate. The story is a classic western featuring Dent’s smart alec cowboy character Haw Kain who rides into town and a whole mess of trouble when he goes up against greedy land grabbers looking to strike it rich.
“We are pleased as punch to be able to add Dent’s ‘Snare Savvy’ to Radio Western Adventures,” said Cunningham. “ It makes an already unique book like RWA that much more special to western and pulp fans. As I read it I could easily see Roy Rogers and Dale Evans as the lead characters Haw Kain and Genie Quayle. Their banter matched perfectly, each giving as good as he or she got. I’m ecstatic over the prospect of publishing a pulp master like Dent’s work, and grateful that Will Murray thought Pulp 2.0 would be a good publisher for the tale.”
Radio Western Adventures will be published on Amazon’s Kindle platform for digital reading and will later come out as a print release via Createspace. The Kindle edition will feature both stories as well as an essay tribute to Jim Harmon whose love for radio western heroes was well known amongst fans. This digital edition will also include several photos resurrected from Don Glut’s archives showing the profound influence these radio cowboys had on the author and his peers. Pulp 2.0 Press’s print edition will include all of the above plus even more bonus features exclusive to the print version. Both versions will feature a stunning cover by artist Nik Macaluso (www.scripttease.tv) who created the fantastic blaxploitation cover art for Pulp 2.0’s first release BROTHER BLOOD (also by Glut).

Terror In The House: The Early Kuttner, Volume One is off to the printer and it's a race against the clock to make a debut at World Fantasy 36 in Columbus, OH on October 28th.
Before his marriage to (and subsequent collaborations with) Catherine L. Moore, Henry Kuttner was a frequent contributor to the pulp magazines that specialized in the weird, supernatural, horror, and science fiction genre.
Beginning in 1936, with the minor classic "The Graveyard Rats," Kuttner launched a steady stream of short stories aimed at Weird Tales, Mystery Tales, Thrilling Wonder Stories, and others.
Writing for Weird Tales brought Kuttner into direct correspondence with that magazine's premier contributor. H. P. Lovecraft. Kuttner set several stories in Lovecraft's "Cthulhu Mythos" and several are presented in TERROR IN THE HOUSE including: "The Secret of Kralitz," "The Eater of Souls," "The Salem Horror," The Jest of Droom-Avista," "The Frog," "The Invaders," and "The Bells of Horror."
Given the short lengths of Kuttner's stories, he had to be prolific and he contributed reams of copy to the weird-menace (a sub-genre of horror where a seemingly supernatural plot is resolved with a pedestrian ending) pulps, Thrilling Mystery and Spice Mystery.
It was his specialization for spicy or sexed-up stories that led Kuttner to write most (two stories and one novelette) of the first issue of Marvel Science Stories, arguably the first spicy science fiction pulp.
Terror In The House is the first volume in a set collecting many of Kuttner's earliest stories, most of which have never been reprinted.

PIERS ANTHONY & ROBERTO FUENTES
Most of the paperback original, men’s adventure, martial arts series published during the ‘70s were pretty much dreck. There were a few series, however, that rose above the muck and deserve to be remembered.
The best know of these is probably The Black Samurai series, consisting of eight books written by Marc Olden under the pseudonym Robert Sands. The series actually spawned a bad martial arts B-movie starring Jim Kelly in the title role. Olden, who really knew his martial arts, would go on to write some excellent mainstream martial arts thrillers starting with Gaijin.
The other series, and the focus of this post, was written by science fiction stalwart Piers Anthony and Cuban martial arts master Robert Fuentes. Kiai! was the first book in the series – and in many ways the best – featuring American martial arts master Jason Striker.
This was ‘70s pulp fiction at its best. Striker is more than happy to simply teach at his dojo (he’s a 5th dan judoka in a kung fu world), preparing students for tournaments, until he is challenged by a renegade Judoka whom he battles to a draw. This battle draws Striker into the martial arts underground when he believes the Judoka is murdering rival instructors using a forbidden lingering death touch technique.
Before long, Striker is battling for his life in a tournament to find the best martial artist in the world. Again facing the Judoka, whom Striker has discovered is killer ninja master Fu Antos, Striker wins the tournament, but is hit with the lingering death touch as Antos escapes.
Striker now must locate a kidnapped Ki master, who may be able to save his life, while engaging hordes of ninjas, and chasing the elusive Antos. Once Striker finds the master and is saved from the death touch, he commits himself to the pursuit and destruction of Fu Antos through four more books.
Kiai! is the perfect ‘70s martial arts time capsule. While the sex scenes are pretty laughable verging on lame, the action and the writing itself hold up extremely well. There is even the occasional fantasy element to the stories, which sets them apart from the run of the mill ‘70s series.
The original series was published by Berkley books and are somewhat hard to find. However, Amazon sports a series of collections reprinting several of the books in each volume. If this was your meat and potatoes back in the day, the reprints are well worth revisiting – and they would make an excellent addition to the current e-book explosion.
