HARDBOILED CORNER: SAND'S GAME ~ ENNIS WILLIE!
I'M CURRENTLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS TERRIFIC COLLECTION OF HARDBOILDED TALES ABOUT A MOB KILLER TRYING TO GET OUT. THE COLLECTION HAS INTRODUCTIONS BY GUYS WHOSE TASTES RUN MUCH THE SAME AS MINE -- MAX ALLAN COLLINS, BILL CRIDER, STEVEN MERTZ, JAMES REASONER, WAYNE DUNDEE -- AND THEY ARE RIGHT ON THE MONEY: THIS IS GREAT, RAW, STUFF . . .
WILLIE'S SAND CHARACTER IS VERY MUCH HIS OWN MAN, BUT HE'D FIND KINDRED SPIRITS IN STARK'S PARKER, MAX ALLAN COLLINS' NOLAN, DON PENDELTON'S ORIGINAL MACK BOLAN, AND ANDRE VACHSS' BURKE . . .

I read this Sand collection last year and enjoyed it for the most part, but I have read so much that is similar that it was hard to be "shocked" by the material. It was too easy for me to guess the endings. But Willie is a solid writer, that is for sure, and his words were fun to read. I would love to see him do a new novel.
